Grandview/Commerical Drive

The Grandview/Commercial Drive area is well known for its diversity, vibrancy and sense of community. With many shops and restaurants, schools and parks, tree-lined streets and century-old heritage homes, "The Drive" is an area that has something for everyone.

Once known as "Little Italy," The Drive is now a centre of multiculturalism. A wash of sights, sounds and flavours await those who wander Commercial Drive, which boasts nearly 100 restaurants between Venables Street and Broadway. There´s everything from Italian, Greek, Cuban, Thai, African, Japanese, Chinese and Indian cuisine available. Residents of this neighbourhood can be seen sipping espresso at any of the 19 coffee bars along The Drive. For those who love to cook at home, there are countless fresh fruit and vegetable markets, delis, and specialty food shops.

The creative spirit that fills the area can be seen in the many festivals, as well as in the art events and galleries, theatres, and live-music venues that dot the Drive. Grandview residents continue to welcome small businesses, and the shops on the Drive directly represent the diverse interests and needs of the community.

The Grandview community is home to a number of schools, services and parks. There are two community gardens available for residents, and nearby Trout Lake is a popular destination for joggers, cyclists and dog walkers. Along the many tree-lined side streets of The Drive are a number of character and heritage buildings that demonstrate the area´s rich history, including the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish and J.J. Miller´s Kurrajong. There are Community Centers at Britannia and Trout Lake and Templeton, housing skating rinks, swimming pools, a library, work-out areas, and a myriad of classes for people of all ages. Smaller parks, playgrounds and ‘green spaces’ dot the area and provide areas for neighbours to meet.

Located only minutes from Downtown Vancouver, the Grandview area is serviced by numerous bus routes and two Skytrain stations. A short walk from many other historical and unique areas, including Strathcona, Commercial Drive is a fantastic neighbourhood to live in.
